Tally is the default accounting software for Indian businesses, and most exporters already have it. So the honest question is not "Tally or Eximly?" but "what does an exporter need that accounting software does not do?"
What Tally does well
- Accounting and GST — ledgers, vouchers, GST returns, and a format every CA in India knows.
- Inventory — stock items, godowns and stock summaries.
- Familiarity — your accountant and CA already work in it.
If your export volume is small and your documents are made in Word and Excel, Tally plus spreadsheets can work.
Where exporters run into limits
An export is not just an invoice. Each shipment usually needs:
- A proforma invoice and then a commercial invoice in foreign currency, with Incoterms, ports and HS codes.
- A packing list, certificate of origin and bill of lading details that must match the invoice exactly.
- The shipping bill number, LEO date, RoDTEP and drawback amounts recorded against the shipment.
- Realisation tracking — which remittance settled which invoice, the bank's FIRC/e-BRC, and what is still outstanding before the FEMA deadline.
- Letter of credit terms, if the buyer pays by LC.
Accounting software records the money. It is not built to hold the shipment, the documents and the deadlines. That is why many exporters end up retyping the same buyer, product and quantity into five different files — and why mismatched documents get rejected by banks and customs.
What Eximly adds
- One order, every document — create the export order once; the commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, shipping bill and bill of lading details are generated from it, so they always match.
- Shipment and realisation tracking — remittances matched to invoices, BRC status and outstanding amounts in one place.
- Accounting built in — every invoice, bill and payment posts a double-entry journal, with Trial Balance, P&L, Balance Sheet and GST working sheets.
- GST e-invoice and e-way bill for domestic sales, plus LUT export invoices.
Can I keep Tally?
Yes. Eximly keeps real double-entry books and has a Tally-compatible export, so your CA can keep working in Tally while your team runs orders, documents and shipments in Eximly. Many exporters start this way and decide later whether they still need both.
